CELEBRATIONS!

Great things are happening at WCS!

Our 8th grade Boat Builders have begun their weekly sessions at the Maine Maritime Museum learning carpentry and team building skills, while building two boats that will be auctioned off in the spring. The proceeds will support the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C.

Through the WCS Woolwich WOW program we are recognizing students for their positive behavior. When students are caught following the Woolwich Way they are rewarded with a ticket to enter into a container in the Atrium. Once the number of tickets reaches different levels, the whole school is rewarded. Last Friday, we reached our first goal, and Mr. Libby and Mrs. Willette handed out popsicles to the whole school!

LONG WEEKEND

Friday, October 11th is a Professional Day for staff, and there will be no school for students. Monday, October 14th is Indigenous Peoples’ Day (formerly Columbus Day) and there will be no school.

SCHOOL PICTURES

School pictures have arrived and have been sent home with students. If your child was absent on picture day or if you would like to have a retake, you can plan on that for Wednesday, October 30th. Bring in your picture packet  on retake day and Lifetouch will replace it with the retake. Questions? Go to mylifetouch.com and use ID LG229005Q0. You can also order more pictures from the website. Paper order forms are available in the WCS Office.

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

HEAR YE!  HEAR YE! I will begin hearing and vision screening next week.  I will start in 8th grade and work backwards. If you wish me to have more information about your student, or for some reason, not to check their vision or hearing, please let me know. I try to check every student in the building even though I am only required to do certain grades.  I have found many students who have benefited from glasses, or in a few cases were having difficulty hearing. After they leave WCS, many times they are not checked again, at least in school. I have already applied for 10 scholarships that would allow for free glasses to those who could benefit from them. NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS.  If your student has no vision or hearing problems you will NOT hear from me.

Lastly, please be proactive and think about flu shots,  It is NOT too early.  ~Nurse Sherwood

ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTERS

This is the first week that we have sent out our newsletters electronically only. If you would prefer to have a hard copy of the newsletter sent home every Friday, please let the office or your child’s teacher know and we will be sure to get one to you by “backpack express.” You can always find the newsletter on our website, www.woolwich.rsu1.org

CELL PHONES

Middle Schoolers have received a printed version of the WCS Cellular Use Permission Form (printed on yellow paper.) If your student brings a cellphone to school, We ask that parents and students sign the form and return them to their homeroom teachers.

BUS NOTES

Please remember to write your first and last name on bus notes as well as the first and last name of the student who’s receiving the bus note. This will help us ensure that the note is with your student at the end of the day.

WCS PTA FUNDRAISER

Join us for this year's fall PTA fundraiser! Last year's Harvest Hustle was an AMAZING success and we have designed an even more unique program for this year! Taking inspiration from American Ninja Warrior and races like Tough Mudder....we happily announce......

WOOLWICH WARRIOR CHALLENGE!!!!

On October 25th an obstacle course like nothing Woolwich has ever seen before will be assembled on our school grounds! Students (and parents, too!) will have a chance to run the race and see if they can complete the WOOLWICH WARRIOR CHALLENGE!

Are you up to the task? Can you conquer the course!?
