MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY - NO SCHOOL

Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a constant attitude. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

8TH GRADE PARENT AUCTION MEETING

Parents of 8th graders - please join us for the Auction meeting on Tuesday, January 21st at 6:00 PM. Many hands make light work- and there’s plenty of work to do!

AUCTION DONATIONS

The annual 8th Grade Auction will be held on Saturday, April 4th here at WCS. This is the major fundraiser for our 8th graders as they get ready for their Washington, D.C. trip in June. Last year’s auction raised $16,000 for the students, with many different items up for grabs. If you have something you would like to donate, please contact the office or any 8th grader. We hope to have up to 60 live auction items, and more than 300 silent auction items!

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

Let me share about when to keep your child home and when to send:  any child with a temperature of 100 or more should stay home no matter what. Every case of vomiting and diarrhea stays home for 24 hours after the last episode. If your child has what you call a "cold" and they are not old enough to cover their cough, think about others that they may spread it to.  I do not want every parent to keep a child home with a cold, but with flu season here, remember Influenza is a respiratory process and those symptoms can be the start of the flu. We are a community and ride together on buses, eat together in the cafeteria, and play in the gym, all within a "close zone" that one cough uncovered, or improperly covered, can pass those germs.  Parents and teachers should review with your students how to properly cough into your elbow, making sure it is truly covered.

Hand washing is next to review: one should NOT simply wet and dry hands, but use soap every time. Scrub hands on both sides and between the fingers to ensure they are truly washed.  I will be making rounds to rooms this week to teach, reinforce, and try as hard as I can to help keep us ALL healthy. Please call me with any questions. ~Nurse Sherwood

WINTER WEATHER CLOTHING

Please be sure your children have appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. We will be outside everyday for fresh air and exercise! If your child’s clothing (boots, coats, snow pants, etc.) is labeled with their name, we’ll be sure to keep it out of the lost and found!!
