BAND and CHORUS
Hello! My name is Mrs. Jennifer Joray, and I am the new music director here at Woolwich Central School! I am thrilled to bring music into the classrooms of pre-k through 8th graders, as sharing the joy of music and life is my greatest passion. My family and I have been living in Salem, Massachusetts for the last 15 years, and I have been teaching music in a public school and in a private setting for over 20 years. My Master of Music degree is in Flute Performance, and I spent my college years and beyond playing and teaching with professional orchestras, opera companies, chamber groups, and running my own private flute and piano studio. It makes me proud to be a supportive voice in a students’ life, no matter what age. It is exciting to watch skills develop within someone and to see the joy of music weave itself into the tapestry of a child’s development. I’m sure you can hear that I am a passionate musician and teacher, and will find ways to support your child’s musical development, especially now!
CHORUS: Grades 6, 7, and 8 Wednesdays 9:15-9:55 A.M.
Join our weekly virtual rehearsals, beginning this Wednesday, Feb. 10th. Join using the link in Brightspace or by clicking the LINK here. The rehearsal will be conducted LIVE in four parts, just like an in-person rehearsal:
I. Warm-ups Body, breath and voice,
II. Skill Building Introduction of new skill using a piece of written music,
III. Reading where we work to learn new music
IV. SING, SING, SING!! Previous repertoire sing-along/run-through.
It is important to attend the warm-up section to kick off each session for optimum vocal health! Each rehearsal will be approximately 40 minutes, and will be an incredible opportunity to participate in virtual music-making! We hope to rehearse together this year in the spring at some point.
BAND: Grades 6, 7, and 8 Wednesdays 10:00-10:40 A.M.

All levels of middle school students who have had some level of instrumental training are invited to attend our live band rehearsal sessions on Wednesday mornings virtually from home. Students will need access to internet connectivity and a place they can sit comfortably sideways, so I can quickly troubleshoot any posture or playing issues before they become a problem.
I will have virtual office hours from 10:45-11:25 almost every Wednesday if anyone needs extra help. I will be setting up a Google Meet link and will copy parents on these meetings. Links will be sent out via email, and also provided on the music Brightspace page for easy access. I am working on obtaining music for your son/daughter.
If your son/daughter would like to start an instrument, please email me: jjoray@rsu1.org. We are hoping to have a live afternoon rehearsal when the weather is permitting in the spring, and we will be playing outside at that time. With the cohort model, we may need two smaller rehearsals, but we can work towards this common goal as spring approaches.
