HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

We are off to a great start of our school year.  Let me share some information with you that may be helpful:  Bedtime routines are important and change can sometimes be difficult, but coming back to school is a big change and going to bed to allow for a proper night’s sleep is critical. Children need between 8-10 hours sleep a night.  That might sound like a lot however, remember they are growing and very busy throughout the day.

I am busy logging all of the immunizations the state requires for your child to be in school, if any are missing you will be hearing from me, so please get those immunizations in to me.

As we come back together and are in enclosed spaces, germs are everywhere and are shared way more than we would all like.  Speak with your student about hand washing, and covering their cough. These are two ways to help stop the spread of those germs.

I will be holding a flu clinic here on November 25th from 11-4 p.m. There is only a half day of school that day so you will have to return to get shots.  If you go to your doctors or another flu clinic, can you please send in the slip of paper you got when the flu shot was given so I can note it in your student’s chart.

Remember I am here to help you and your student, please contact me with any questions or concerns. --Nurse Sherwood

MAINE HARVEST WEEK

Next week we will be celebrating Maine Harvest Week in our cafeterias. Each day, we will offer an item that was harvested locally, and on Wednesday, we will be offering a Harvest Lunch, which will include an abundance of food harvested all from Maine.

Apples will be coming from Willow Pond Orchards in Sabattus. Veggies will be coming from Swango Farms out of Woolwich. Potatoes come from Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. Some schools will be offering greens from Springworks in Lisbon, and yogurt from the Milkhouse Dairy and Creamery in Monmouth. Whenever we can, RSU1 is sourcing more food from local vendors. If you have any questions, contact Tim Harkins at tharkins@rsu1.org or call 443-6601 x114.
