CELEBRATIONS!

Great things are happening at WCS!

  • Mrs. Wells and Ms. Squillace have been doing an amazing job in the kitchen this year! As of this week, they have served over 8,600 meals to students. We are so grateful for all of their hard work and the healthy, creative, and delicious menu options that they offer!

LINES FROM THE LIBRARY

There has been a change to library services with the new Specials schedule, but I have good news - your student still has a chance to exchange library books regularly! Our K-5 students get a chance to select books from our mobile lending library every week, and our middle school students get a visit with the mobile library every 2 weeks. K-2 students can exchange books on TUESDAYS, and 3-5 students exchange books on THURSDAYS (when Library is not their Special of the Week). Continue to return those books each week! Also, students in Grades 3 and up have all learned how to log in and reserve library books any time they need them; I deliver daily.

READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK

We will be celebrating Read Across America next week! This year there will be theme days, morning trivia, and, of course, reading! We hope that lots of Wildcats join in on the fun.

Monday, 3/1: “Wear it, Read it” (clothing with school appropriate slogans and messages, please)

Tuesday, 3/2: “Hats off to Reading” (wear a hat!)

Wednesday, 3/3: “Reading Rocks” (wear your coolest shades...we will rock out to music periodically throughout the day)

Thursday, 3/4: “Reading Makes You Bright” (wear bright colors)

Friday, 3/5: “Snuggle Up and Read” (schoolwide pajama day- SCHOOL APPROPRIATE PAJAMAS ONLY)

HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS

This week I will focus on some odds and ends that may have been stated in previous notes but are worth repeating.

First is a big thank you for checking your child's mask, making sure it fits properly, (staying over the mouth AND nose) and making sure it gets washed if it is cloth.

Second, next year we will be strictly adhering to the new law on immunizations, so please make sure that your child is up to date.  If you do not know, call your PCP and ask.  They will be overwhelmed with calls and appointments once summer comes and so I advise you if at all possible, to tend to this now rather than waiting.

Lastly, Covid has taken a toll on everyone and in many different ways.  As you look at your life I am sure you could make a long list of losses, and changes it has brought.  I am asking, are you are o.k.?  Are your family members o.k.? Does someone need some extra support, and what would that look like? Somehow many of us keep on going as we think there are no other options, but there comes a time when some help is valuable.  That help may be in the form of talking to someone, counseling or seeing your doctor.  I do not know your situation, but want to help if I can. I do have a list of resources and would share them with anyone who requests it. We are in this TOGETHER! ~ Roberta Sherwood, R.N., BSN, M.Ed
