Great things are happening at WCS!

THANK YOU to all who supported the Odyssey of the Mind World Final’s Trip “Hat Day” fundraiser! We raised $254.30!!! The team leaves for the competition in Iowa next Wednesday, and will proudly be representing Woolwich and the state of Maine!

SECOND GRADE OWLS

Second grade had an amazing visit with Kyle from Chewonki's Traveling Natural History Program this week.  The "Owls of Maine" presentation tied in with their current bird study.  Kyle taught us about the adaptations owls have that let them thrive in their environments.  Second graders loved the chance to explore owl artifacts, such as beaks and talons. A highlight was meeting two live owls!  Thanks to our PTA for supporting this enriching experience!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

This week we hosted RSU 1’s 25th Annual Battle of the Books for WCS students and students in the surrounding area schools (Fisher Mitchell, Phippsburg, West Bath, Georgetown). The Battle of the Books is a game show style competition for students; they read as many of the Maine Student Book Award nominees as possible and then answer questions about these books. Some students read all of the 30+ books on the list! It takes many months to prepare for the Battle of the Books and hours of reading. 23 WCS students participated and did an outstanding job! A big congratulations to our second-place finishing team: Georgia Leeman, Jacob Lichman-Paul, Parker Clark and Sophia Wright.

Our 6th graders had an additional opportunity to participate in a competition called the Great Maine Book Tournament. We learned the results of this digital state-wide competition today and we're proud of our 3rd place finishing team! Congratulations to Bella Bachman, Cameron Griffee, Caroline Luchies, Cato Eich and Sophia Gregory!
