THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
⛛ The last day of school for Pre-K students is Friday, 6/10.
⛛ The last day of school for grades K-8 will be Friday, 6/17, and will be a half-day of school for students, with dismissal happening at 12PM. Students will be offered a bagged lunch before they leave for the afternoon.
FIELD DAY
Next Thursday, Jun 16th, the students will all have a Field Day to end the year on a fun note. Please send them with some extra water and athletic clothing for the day! - Mr. Hutchings
GO2SCIENCE VISIT
It was with a great deal of excitement that Woolwich Central School welcomed the famous Beth and Curtis, co-creators of Go2Science. The Go2Science program has been an integral part of kindergarten for the past many years and we are excited that 1st grade joined in the missions this year.
The Go2Science goal is to, "Make the world a better place by teaching children to be effective questioners and compassionate evidence-based decision-makers." As we have traveled around the world with Beth and Curtis, they have certainly achieved that goal with the children at Woolwich Central School!
We would like to thank the PTA for funding this incredible experience for our youngest learners. It was a day they will not soon forget!
BAND & CHORUS CONCERT
Chorus and Band Students performed in an incredible end-of-the-year concert last night! Students were amazing, prepared with challenging music parts, and a wide selection of music on many different instruments and voices. Chorus sang songs from India, the Shakers, folk songs, and even something by Billy Joel, and the band performed folk music along with well-known modern compositions and even The Star Spangled Banner. I was so proud of all our students, especially the soloists!! How brave they all were!! It was lovely to hear parents complimenting their children, and see the smiles on their faces as they got to relax and enjoy something beautiful. ~ Mrs. Joray
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
MEDICINE PICK UP: If at any point you have left medicine for your student it must be picked up...... YES, I will deliver to your car, if you call me first and tell me when you will be here; NO, I cannot give it to your child to bring home. I do need a signature at pick up and will have a pen ready for you. Please help me with this as soon as possible.
LINES FROM THE LIBRARY
Thank you for returning library books this week! All library books were supposed to be returned yesterday, June 8th. If your book has gone missing, a bill was sent home today. Check those backpacks! If you can’t find the book, please send in a check to WCS to pay for its replacement.
We had a great year of reading at WCS, and the library has the numbers to prove it! This year, the Woolwich community checked out 13,805 items from the library! On top of that, students read 3,076 ebooks using our Tumblebooks subscription and checked out 828 ebooks on Sora. After all that great reading, it is crucial that our students continue to read every day over the summer. They work so hard during the school year to improve their reading skills; research shows that students who don’t read over the summer can lose as much as 22% of their reading level over vacation. There are lots of great resources to help with summer reading. Please check out the Patten Free Library website for information about their programming. Also, the Mockingbird Bookshop is offering a discount for summer reading books (and a raffle). If you need book recommendations, check out the RSU 1 summer reading lists on the WCS website. Age-appropriate lists will be coming home in next week’s report card envelopes.

JUNE 14th: FLAG DAY
Flag Day (also called National Flag Day) a day honoring the national flag, is observed in the USA on June 14th. The holiday commemorates the date in 1777 when the United States approved the design for its first national flag. It’s also a time to remember and honor military men and women who defend our flag and our country. If you have worn and torn flags, you can take them to the Bath American Legion, they have a blue mailbox to put them in. The Legion will dispose of them properly.
PATTEN FREE LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The Patten Free Library will kick off the 2022 Summer Reading Program: Oceans of Possibilities, on Friday, June 17. This program is open to year-round and summer residents of all ages residing in Arrowsic, Bath, Georgetown, West Bath, and Woolwich, and/or for any RSU1 student. Read to earn prizes and participate in exciting events including music, puppet shows, art and cooking classes, science programs, storytimes, and more.
“The Children’s Room is so excited to invite the community to the Oceans of Possibilities 2022 Summer Reading Program,” says Head of Children’s Services Katy Dodge, “We have over a dozen live and in person events planned, and we are thrilled to partner with Renys Department store to offer this year’s Summer Reading prize for all participants who read at least 15 minutes per day.”
Studies have shown that reading just 15 minutes a day can have staggering positive effects in many different aspects of the reader’s life, including knowledge, empathy and personal well-being. “Dive in” to Summer Reading and see what books can do for you!

SUMMER FOOD OPTIONS
The Bath Area YMCA Veggie Van will be having TWO vans doing different routes Monday-Friday this summer for the Summer Food Service Program. They will be providing bagged grab and go breakfasts and lunches at stops in Bath, West Bath, Phippsburg and Woolwich. Schedules for stops will be posted next week. Watch the WCS website for more information. On Wednesdays during the summer, they will be also offering a bag of non-perishable groceries, as well as produce and eggs donated from local farms. They will have milk daily.
The Bath Area Food Bank located at 807 Middle Street in Bath runs a food pantry and allows 2 visits each month.
The Salvation Army of Bath-Brunswick located at 25 Congress Street in Bath provides emergency food (enough for a week) available once a month, as needed.
